The Strong Women for Healthy Country Network brings together women working in Indigenous land management from all across the Northern Territory to advocate, communicate and collaborate as a network of strong women with a united voice.The initiative began in 2019, when women from the Mimal Land Management area invited 32 ranger groups to come together to share and support one another. They gathered in implicit agreement that they wanted to build their own future, that women need the right spaces and support in order to succeed, and that women are stronger together.
Since then, the Network has rapidly expanded and now acts across a range of priority areas to achieve a common vision consisting of three core goals:
- collaborating as a network;
- communicating as a network; and
- advocating as a network.
The Network strives to achieve these goals by: convening Territory-wide annual forums where over 200 women come together; hosting communication platforms and tools; facilitating work exchanges to learn from other ranger groups; advocating for dedicated women's spaces in communities; supporting Indigenous women working as mentors in their communities and organisations; creating best practice guides for employing women in the sector; securing training and support for women to advocate for themselves; and supporting regional women's healing workshops.
